Remembered with nostalgia in Japan

Miyama-cho is a beautiful town surrounded by mountains of about 800 to 900 meters tall. It has a population of around 4000 people. There are old thatched roof houses scatter along Miyama River, especially in north village in Chii region. This part of the town is called "Kayabuki no Sato"(Thatched Roof Village). It is famous throughout Japan as the quintessential ancestral hometown, designated by the national government as an Important Traditional Building Preservation District. The forest of Miyama region has an abundant variety of animals, plants, and insects. It has a complex ecological landscape which is very rare in low-mountain area near big cities. The forest is under the management of Kyoto University as a research forest. Hotel Kajikaso arranges nature guide tours. Please make an application at the front desk of the hotel.
